How To Register A Trademark

How to Register a Trademark: only thru the US government can it be obtained

How to register a trademark has been made simple with the online registration. While it is still true there is a sub office of the US Patent and Trademark offices in St. Louis, Missouri, the main office is in Alexandria, Virginia.

For convenience to business, the US Patent and Trademark office recommends the use of their website when making an inquiry or registering a trademark. At this site, a person can look upon to see if the trademark you wish to register is available or already taken and the whole process of registration can be completed.

The first step is to know if your word, phrase, symbol, and logo is eligible for registration. A search on the government’s website can help you determine this. This can be done at the Trademark Electronic Search System that is available online. If what you wanted to apply a trademark to have a design quality to it, then the Design Search Code Manual should also be consulted.

Once you know your trademark is unique, you need to supply a description of the goods or services your company does that will be identified by this mark. Without this description, your application will be rejected.

You must then have a clear representation of the mark you wish to register. There are two acceptable formats for this to be done. The standard character format is to be used when it is a word, letters, or numbers that is to be registered that makes no claim to style, size, or color of the lettering. The second is the design format that is used when a particular style or design quality is present in any part of the trademark. One or the other must be chosen and a mixture is not permitted.

Knowing how to register a trademark can be easy if you follow the prescribed steps on the government’s website.
