Register trademark name: Make it unique and it’s yours
The main reason to register trademark name is for legal protection against infringement on your reputation and product. When it comes to the process of applying and being granted a trademark, a name is the easiest of all to do.
This is because the other can have similarities to other existing trademarks which could cause confusion. A name is a name. At the United States Patent and Trademark Office official website the name you have chosen can be searched. This is a necessary part of the process to see if what you have chosen to represent your products has already been taken. If it is still available, then you can proceed with the application process. The search process on the USPTO is called the TESS. This is the system that allows visitors to view the existing trademarks that are in the official database. This database is open 23 hours a day 5 days a week. Tuesday thru Saturday the only time this database is unavailable is from 4am to 5 am EST for updating purposes.
Unlike when a symbol or design is chosen to be registered as a trademark, a name is simpler and the need of an expensive trademark lawyer might not be necessary. If you feel this step is necessary then use it, but even in that case it will not be too expensive because of time it will take should not be to extensive.
To do the actual filing of the form the TEAS should be used. This is the electronic form that should be submitted to register trademark name officially with the USPTO. Paper forms are available but at an increased filing price of $50 more.
